Natural Remedies to Treat Food Poisoning at Home

Eating healthy food is like self-awareness amongst people, but sometimes we get in a position where the food doesn’t suit our system and creates serious trouble and that trouble is food poisoning. Once I visited a new place and wanted to try some delicacies, I ended up with food poisoning but after trying some useful home remedies, I met relief quite soon. I would like to share the set of remedies with you. But before I share some useful tip, do you know what actually causes food poisoning?

Causes of Food Poisoning

The major cause of food poisoning is the contaminated food which contains:

Bacteria: Salmonella bacteria are the most common cause of food poisoning. Especially from food like eggs and chicken which is not cooked properly.

Viruses: Most of the food poisoning cases are caused due to the presence of virus in the system. The viruses that causes poisoning is sapovirus, rotavirus, and astrovirus.

Parasites: Food that causes parasites are still undetected but its mostly caused when you suffer from low immunity. Mostly pregnant woman has more chances of meeting food poisoning.

We must avoid stale food and while traveling as we try new food joints and are unaware of the quality. Also, dairy products get contaminated frequently. So make sure to avoid dairy products.

Precaution is Better than Cure.

Food Poisoning Signs and Symptoms

When do you actually realize that you are suffering from food poisoning, the very basic symptoms are:

  • Vomiting
  • Nausea
  • Diarrhoea
  • Abdominal pain
  • Cramps
  • Fever
  • Weakness

These mentioned symptoms are the most basic, sometimes the pain gets worse and causes some serious trouble, in that case Doctor visit is recommended.

Home Remedies for Food Poisoning

The symptoms may vary from person to person and at times the initial stage of food poisoning is detected and there are many effective home remedies which help it cure at the earliest and states the person with relief.

Ginger Tea

Make some ginger tea by boiling one tablespoon grated ginger with a cup of water, let it boing for few minutes and add little sugar or honey as per your taste. It is advised to drink this twice a day for better results.

Ginger Juice

Another intake option of ginger is in the form of juice. Take one spoon of ginger juice and add few drops of honey in it. Swallow it several times a day until the inflammation and pain reduces.

Raw Ginger

If you can swallow a piece of ginger, nothing like it. Ginger work quickly and improves absorption and assimilation of essential nutrients aiming aids in digestion.

Apple Cider Vinegar

ACD contains alkaline which acts quickly for food poisoning. Mix two tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in a cup of hot water and drink before your meal.

Lemon

The anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties in lemon gives relief in food poisoning. Take one teaspoon of lemon juice and drink three to four times a day for better results.

Garlic

It is also very effective ingredient which helps symptoms like abdominal pain and diarrhoea. Eat one fresh garlic clove or swallow it with water as it comforts you.

Garlic Oil

You can also apply garlic oil on your stomach. You can boil the coconut oil and put couple of garlic cloves and let it heat. Take that off and let it cool down and its ready to be applied.

Honey

It again has both anti-fungal and antibacterial properties that can show some quick effects on food poisoning. Take one teaspoon of honey and eat. You can repeat this trice a day for better results. It also controls the formation of acid in your stomach.

Fenugreek Seeds and Yogurt

Yogurt has properties like antifungal and antibacterial which helps fighting the bacteria caused by the food poisoning and fenugreek seeds treat abdominal discomfort. Both together makes a reliable mixture to treat discomfort caused by food poisoning. All you need to do is swallow the seeds with plain yogurt.

Cumin Seeds

Commonly knows as zeera can give relief from abdominal discomfort and stomach inflammation caused due to food poisoning. Boil water and add a teaspoon of cumin seeds. Strain the water and drink it. Can be consumed twice a day.

Basil

It’s a great herb to soothe the discomfort caused by food poisoning. Drink basil juice and add few drops of honey in it. Another way to consume is to chew the basil leaves. You can repeat this trice or four times a day.

Banana

As we all know that banana is rich in fiber and potassium, it reenergizes you and help recover from food poisoning quickly. You can consume 3 to 4 banana’s a day.

Cardamom

You can chew cardamom as it has anti-microbical properties will help you overcome vomiting and nausea.

Grapefruit Seed Extract

Grapefruit seed extracts possesses anti-microbial properties. You can add 8-10 drops of grapefruit seed extract in one glass of water and drink. You must drink this mixture thrice daily for 3 days.

Thyme Oil

This particular oil contains compounds like thymol, linalool, and carvacrol that have antiparasitic properties. This works like wonder in food poisoning. Its quite easy to use, just add one drop of thyme oil to a glass of water and mix it well. Drink the solution once or twice daily for 3 days.

When to visit a doctor:

  • Diarrhoea which gets prolonged for days.
  • Suffering from high fever and inflammation.
  • Develop a poor eyesight or blurry vision.
  • Bleeding while passing urine.
  • Dehydration.
  • Major cramps.

These home remedies can help you with temporary relief, in case you still feel uneasy then do not ignore the situation and visit your doctor. Sometimes food poisoning can get way too serious than expected so you are the best judge for your body.
